General Sir Peter Cosgrove in conversation with Paul Kelly

Discussing the memoir of his remarkable life, You Shouldn’t Have Joined.

General Sir Peter Cosgrove AK AC (Mil) CVO MC (Retd) is one of Australia's most significant public figures, having had a career that began with the Vietnam War, saw him rise to become Chief of the Defence Force and ultimately Governor-General.

The Australian’s editor-at-large, Paul Kelly, hosts Sir Peter in a special evening of conversation to discuss the release of his latest memoir, You Shouldn’t Have Joined.

Named after an expression heavily used during his days as a soldier, You Shouldn’t Have Joined is the story of Sir Peter’s extraordinarily full and eventful life, and those who have shared it with him. His memoir is a true reflection of the man himself, filled with intelligence, forthrightness and compassion and showing a brilliant eye for an anecdote.

In this subscriber-exclusive online event, you will gain an incredible insight into the role and world of Australia’s Governor-General, and the man who represented us on the world stage with humour, empathy and intelligence.
